Hey all,

Found pairs of 416-8Cs, 811Bs and 902-8As plus a pair of smart looking cabinets (3/4" plywood) sans backboards about two and a half years ago. Everything looks very clean and newish although a set (one broken and one new) replacement 902 diaphragms were part of the deal - so perhaps there was some usage somewhere along the line....

Did the usual sit 'n think thing before finally starting to stick everything together and building backboards last week - much to the amusement of my girlfriend. Have read the forum and the wiser members' posts extensively for guidance........

i decided to brace the cabinets. Placed two diagonals edge-on on either side as well as a cross brace. I also glued some 3/4" plywood panels to the floor according to the Altec plans. Unfortunately i realized only afterwards that I should have rather glued a panel under the cabinet. Would have been neater and taken up less volume within the enclosure.

I want to put a brace across the middle rear of the cabinet from left to right at the edge so i can also screw the middle of the backboard on to it - which should make things a bit more stiffer? Will also add one or two more edge-on braces on the sidewalls where it feels/sounds ringy.

What is the best way to brace/damp the bottom horn flare panel? I have a cut a brace from floor to panel but have not glued it in yet.

So.... should i add a panel of plywood or an 2x4 edge-on across the width?
Should i even use the vertical floor to panel brace?
Are there any issues with bracing being near the vents?
Can one use up too much of the internal volume?
Is there anything else i should do regarding bracing?

Will also have to cut holes into the flare chambers and decided to fill with foam as my flares are very, very thin and am a bit nervous to put anything heavy in there like kitty litter/sand etc. lest the weight breaks them.

Any tips or pointers will be greatly appreciated.....

What I did with mine was to make 2/3 of the back panel stationary. It is screwed and glued to a 2x4 box frame with 2x4's in an X within the box. 2 x 4's on edge are screwed and glued to the upper removable panel as well.

Up. Running. Jeez! The parquet floor is shaking?
Using a behringer x-over with a 30 Nad on the bass and a 6 watt EL84 PP (triode-mode) on the tweeters. Crossing over at 1.5k with the CDEQ on.
Sounds fantastic when loud ....not so much so when soft i.e. normal levels.
Issues:
There seems to be a bit of hump somewhere in the lower midrange not really an issue with rock, reggae and suchlike but sounds a bit weird with jazz....would more or less stuffing make a difference? Or do i have a room issue? How can i find out?
The tweeters seem to NEED the CDEQ which on the x-over is a 6dB per octave rise from approx 3.5k leveling out at 20k is this normal for 902-8As and 811Bs?
My room is quite large`4.6 meters by 7.5 meters - 15 feet by 25 feet - and L-shaped leading into another area plus double doors so a lot of openings

any chance you have measurement equipment or perhaps a friend that has an RTA? It'd be extremely handy to pinpoint your problem and help you make adjustments.

I agree with Alien Shore measuring equipment would be a big help here.. You need to make the port smaller as well by at least half to get any kind of bass out of that cabinet.Here's a good thread that one of our members started when he was tweaking his..
